Mothers deserve care and support throughout pregnancy and early motherhood, and supporting their mental health helps babies and families thrive. That’s why Perigee Fund is supporting The Secret to Motherhood, the Ad Council’s new national campaign connecting new and expecting mothers with mental health resources.
The latest expansion of the Ad Council’s Love, Your Mind campaign challenges the idea that motherhood should be struggle-free. Motherhood can be incredible and meaningful and still be hard. Many moms feel pressure to show only the happy side, making it harder to talk about feeling overwhelmed, scared, anxious, isolated or disconnected.
One in five mothers in the U.S. report symptoms of depression or anxiety, according to the Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health. The Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance reports that 75% of maternal mental health conditions go undiagnosed or untreated, in large part because of stigma. Most maternal mental health conditions are temporary and treatable. The campaign reminds mothers that prioritizing their mental health is not selfish, they are not alone and they deserve care.
The campaign’s new PSA series, “What’s Her Secret?,” focuses on the parts of early motherhood that often go unspoken and encourages mothers to reach out for support when they need it.

At LoveYourMind.com/moms, mothers can find expert-vetted resources to understand their feelings, cope with exhaustion, overwhelm and anxiety, and connect with hotlines, peer groups and maternal mental health organizations. Resources are available in English and Spanish.
Perigee Fund is supporting the campaign alongside the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, Huntsman Mental Health Foundation, Merck for Mothers, and other partners. When mothers receive the care and support they need, their babies and relationships benefit too.
