Equitable Perinatal Mental Health Care Mitigates the Challenges of Pregnancy and New Parenthood

Mental health supports, such as access to therapy, support groups, and peer connections, can be a lifeline for birthing people and new parents who are experiencing anxiety or depression. Perinatal Support Washington supports the emotional well-being of those transitioning into parenthood, so they can form healthy bonds with their baby.

Perinatal Support Washington works at the family, provider, community, and system level to advance equitable perinatal mental health support in Washington State. The organization is working to eliminate care gaps in culturally appropriate perinatal mental health care available to Black, Indigenous, and other families of color.

Perigee Fund has partnered with Perinatal Support Washington since 2018 to expand its infrastructure and programming, building a robust executive team and staff and increasing supports for families and providers.

With increased capacity, Perinatal Support Washington has built a staff behind its founding leaders, launched a clinical training program, secured permanent funding for the Parent Warm Line, and launched the Parent Resilience Program (PERC), which offers culturally matched peer support in King County, and increased the number and diversity of families served.
