Perinatal Community Health Workers Provide Culturally Matched Support
Community-based doulas are helping to transform the birthing experience for black, brown and indigenous communities through culturally sensitive, trauma-informed care. Families supported by a doula have better health outcomes for the baby and parent, and increased parent-infant bonding.
HealthConnect One (HC One)’s nationally recognized, evidence-based program trains a national network of birth equity advocates to support the well-being of mothers and babies in marginalized communities. It is the only home visiting program with a commitment to support birthing families prenatally, during labor, and postpartum to assist with breastfeeding, attachment, and early parenting
HC One has grown significantly and has become a national advocate that prioritizes birth equity as a maternal and infant mental health issue. The organization’s advocacy has resulted in more public dollars dedicated to growing and expanding doula services throughout the country with a strategic move towards sustainable reimbursement models.
Perigee Fund is committed to resourcing the continued development of a diverse workforce delivering culturally relevant mental health and relationship support. We have partnered with HC One since 2019 to make trauma-informed, community and relationship-based services more accessible to families furthest from equity.
