American Indian and Alaska Natives in Washington experience disproportionate rates of maternal mortality and birth complications, as well as poverty and housing insecurity. Last year, Seattle-based Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services launched the Nest, the first guaranteed income program in the U.S. specifically serving Native communities, to address these disparities.

The Nest provides $1,250 per month in unconditional cash to 150 American Indian/Alaska Native and Pacific Islander families from pregnancy through a child’s third birthday. The families have access to other Hummingbird services such as home visits and doula support, and community events and activities that promote critical bonding time for parents and children.

We are proud to support this program, which is rooted in Indigenous culture, healing practices, and spirit of abundance.

Thank you, The Seattle Times for the feature on Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services’ great work that is making an incredible impact on families.
